Healing From Loss: The Grief Recovery Method

Loss, it’s universal and is most often accompanied by grief. Grief is experienced by the very young to the very old and every age in-between.

Two descriptions of Grief:

1. Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss.

2. Grief is the conflicting feelings caused by a change in a familiar pattern of behavior.

Over 40 different life events can cause feelings of grief.

Some types of Loss that can occur during a lifetime:

Death, divorce, other estranged relationships, loss of a beloved pet, loss of or change in health, loss of career- including retirement and coming home from active duty, loss of faith, infertility, moving, intangible losses such as: loss of someone you never got to meet – adoption or early loss of a parent. Growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional home there are: losses of normalcy, loss of childhood, loss of trust, loss of safety. (Though these can take place in an otherwise ‘normal’ home as well.)

Well, that pretty much covers all of us. We are all grievers.

Questions to ask yourself:

Is there a loss in my past that I would be really be happy to release the pain around? How would it feel to remember the past without having it hurt so much or perhaps at all? How much energy would it free up? What would a current relationship look like today if there was no hurt? Envision yourself being open to taking a new path to heal more fully than you once thought possible.

How do we heal? How do we help others? How do we help the children in our lives?

The good news is that there IS something that can be done, and it is evidence based in significantly changing the level of pain experienced by a griever. It’s called The Grief Recovery Method. This method is a series of small action steps taken by the griever to address undelivered communications unable to be made in a past relationship and addresses unrealized hopes, dreams and expectations.

What are the steps and how do you take them?
